The world needs new stories and new heroes. I got tired of seeing the same tropes recycled.
It's my own autobiography. 54 years of mystical adventures.
Every detail, even ones that don't make it into the work. Color of inside of the palms, moles, tics, and annoyances. Every detail I can possibly imagine to make them come to life in my head and not be me.
I wake, I struggle, I write, then I have to force myself to stop. Starting is almost as hard as stopping.
Not the money, not the fame, but the stories. Watching them come together, watching characters and places come to life.
Working some shitty job to pay bills always sucks the creativity out, but even worse than that is the having to be a marketer of my own work. A person like me hates almost nothing as much as a person shilling their own wares, but if I don't do it, no one will - so bring on the self-hatred.
I find that just writing is the key. Apps and tools get in the way. They are distractions no matter what anyone tells you.
Get a paying job that doesn't suck your soul out. Dishwashing or driving are both good as long as you don't have to deal with customers or managers while you do your work.
Not well, but I'm trying. Want a better answer? So do I. So the fuck do I.
