The Stories We Carry Within Us

1

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is James Mitchell, and I am an author who enjoys writing stories about people, relationships, and the experiences that shape us. I believe every person has a story worth telling.

2

Why did you choose writing as your career?

Writing gave me the freedom to explore ideas and emotions in a way that nothing else could. Over time, I realized that storytelling was not simply something I enjoyed—it was something I wanted to dedicate my life to.

3

Where did the idea for your latest book come from?

The idea came from watching how people respond differently to change. Some people resist it, while others use it as an opportunity to begin again. I wanted to explore that contrast through my characters.

4

What do you enjoy most about writing?

I love the moment when fictional characters begin to feel real. Sometimes they surprise me by making choices I did not originally plan. Those unexpected moments often make the story more exciting.

5

How do you decide when a story is finished?

A story feels finished when the characters have reached a natural point in their journey and the main questions have been answered. I also rely heavily on editing because a story can change significantly during revisions.

6

Do you write every day?

I try to write regularly, even if I only manage a small amount. Consistency is more important to me than writing a huge number of words in a single day.

7

What inspires you outside of books?

People inspire me the most. Their conversations, struggles, ambitions, friendships, and everyday experiences often give me ideas for characters and stories.

8

How do you deal with criticism?

I try to listen carefully and separate useful feedback from personal preference. Not every reader will love every part of a book, but thoughtful criticism can help an author become better.

9

What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an author?

Learning to be patient has been one of my biggest challenges. Writing a good book takes time, and there are many stages between having an idea and seeing the finished book in a reader's hands.

10

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Start before you feel ready. You will learn much more by writing than by waiting for the perfect idea or perfect moment. Keep practicing and allow yourself to improve one page at a time.

11

What do you hope your readers gain from your stories?

I hope my stories give readers something they can carry with them—a new perspective, a moment of happiness, or perhaps the courage to look at their own lives differently.

12

What is next on your writing journey?

I am working on a new novel that explores friendship, ambition, and the consequences of choices made when we are young. It is still developing, but I am enjoying discovering the story as I write it.
